Position/title: Doctor specializing in infectious disease and travel medicine, Sanford Health, Fargo
Family: I am the first of five children, and I got married to my loving and wonderful husband last year.
Explain what you do:
Our team of infectious disease specialists focuses on treating infectious and immunological diseases caused by an infectious agent (bacteria, fungus, parasites or other rare infections). These conditions are often rare and complicated and may include respiratory infections, bone and joint infections, tuberculosis and meningitis.
How long have you lived in Fargo-Moorhead?
What brought you to the area?
I came to Fargo-Moorhead for the employment opportunity at Sanford Health.
Fashanu graduated from the University of Lagos in Nigeria. She completed a master’s program in Public Health at the University of Minnesota and moved on to finish her residency in internal medicine at Pinnacle Health System in Harrisburg, Pa. She completed her fellowship in infectious disease at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
If you had to narrow it down to just one thing, what do you like best about Fargo-Moorhead?
It’s a very family-friendly community.
What amenities in the community do you, your family and/ or employees most appreciate?
The city is big enough to have fun and enjoy the pleasures of nice restaurants, evening walks, easy access to beautiful lakes and friendly people without the traffic, hustle and bustle of a big city.

Longer summers, shorter winters.
How has culture and Fargo-Moorhead’s livability changed in your time in the community?
I’ve noticed more restaurants opening, which provides more options to choose from. There has also been an increase in diversity within the community.
Are you a dog or a cat person?
Probably a dog person, but I can’t have either as my husband has allergies.

What’s your favorite part of your job?
Meeting people every day and the ability to make a difference in health care.
What does an ideal Saturday look like?
Sleeping in, cleaning, shopping and taking a nice walk with my husband. A nice movie to end the day when it is long enough to get one into the day’s schedule.
